The short version: Uluwatu Temple at 3.4 km for the clifftop sunset and the Kecak fire dance, GWK Cultural Park around 10 km away, and the run of beaches under the cliffs. Everything worth seeing here is within a short scooter ride, which is why most people end up staying longer than they booked for.
3.4 km from us. A Balinese sea temple on a cliff a hundred metres above the water, and the reason most first-time visitors come inland at all. Go late afternoon: the light along the cliff walk is the whole point.
The Kecak fire dance runs at sunset in an open amphitheatre on the cliff edge, with a chanting circle instead of a gamelan orchestra. The setting does as much work as the performance. Tickets are sold separately from temple entry, and they sell out on busy evenings, so get there early or book ahead.

They are practised at it. Sunglasses off your face, phone out of your hand, hat off your head, and they have worked out they can trade it back for food. Zip everything into a bag before you walk through the gate and carry nothing loose. It is the single most common thing guests come back annoyed about.
Around 10 km from us. The Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue is one of the tallest in the world, set in a park cut out of limestone. It is a bigger, more built-up day out than the temple, and it works best as a half day with the temple in the evening.
The Bukit's coastline is a run of small beaches tucked below limestone cliffs, most of them reached by a staircase. Thomas Beach is 1.0 km from us, a 13 minute walk, and it is the easy one for a swim and a sunset. Padang Padang sits at 1.4 km, Suluban at 1.6 km. Bingin, Dreamland and Balangan are a short scooter ride and all reward the trip even if you never paddle out.

A scooter is the classic way to do the Bukit and we can help you rent one at the front desk. Gojek and Grab both work around Uluwatu for short hops, usually about a dollar, and reception will order the ride if you have not got the app. For anything further afield we can arrange land transport, and we will point you at fast boat operators we trust for Nusa Penida, the Gilis and Lombok.
Doing nothing. There is a lagoon pool with a lama tiled on the floor, a swim-up bar, a games room, and a free family dinner three nights a week. A fair number of guests book two nights, lose track, and stay ten.
